Parritch and Bread

I am slowly getting around to doing the bread and steel cut oatmeal thing that Miss JudyL has been tempting us with picture-wise.  I must say, they are both terrific.

I tried crockpots for the steel cut oatmeal(aka parritch, according to Diana Gibaldon in her saga The Outlander)..didn't work for me.  However, the rice cooker I have does.  I can make it in 15 minutes....it is so, so good.)  I have one from  Wolfgang Puck and there is a recipe in the accompanying book for steel cut oatmeal that is sooooooo   goood!  It has a little bit of vanilla and some raisins in it....really, really good with butter and sugar and a little cream...Of course it isn't non-fattening, lol.  This doesn't look real appetizing, but it is exactly enough for Aud and myself.  I cut down the recipe.

As for the bread, well, look at this....

This is so good!!! And so easy, you need to try it.

I've just gotten my mom hooked on steel cut oats. We love adding strawberries (any kind of berries really) or apples and cinnamon. I think this is 2 days in a row you've said something nice and not blamed me for something! :)

Can I talk you into getting chickens???

I bought the steel cut oats but never made them. I love oatmeal and if it were make and waiting for me each morning I'd sure eat it. lol That bread looks delish too.

Hi. Steel cut oats are wonderful. We have it every morning with homemade (sugar free) apple sauce. I make the apple sauce in the crock pot--very easy.

I want to know where I might buy a copy of the basket quilt by the OK Quilters. My sister is crazy for basket quilts and I think this one is sensational.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

I haven't tried the steel cut oats yet, but have that on my cooking to-do list. No, it's not as long as my quilting to-do list, thank goodness!

I was thinking about you today and came searching for the fundraiser info for Katy and CF. Info, please!

I've been doing my steel cut oats on the stove top and it takes forever! I have a oldish rice cooker that rice sticks to so I'm sure the oats would too, will have to fine a new one! I'm so glad you posted about this, it will be so nice to not have to babysit them.

I love your blog header, is is by chance Mesa Verde? I live about 45 min from there and have never been! It's been on my to-do list for years..... lol
